Missing Maps

Missing Maps

A year and a half ago, Missing Maps was created and from there it began to create opportunities to create maps and discover data from some of the most vulnerable places in the developing world. As a result of having this information, we can now better respond to crisises affecting the areas.

It is because of how powerful Missing Maps is, that the LS team feel incredibly honoured to have been a part of this project.

Missing Maps came to The Whisky Bond, our office building in Glasgow and we couldn't wait to find out all about it.

We were told to use open street map - wiki version of Google maps and we would were given an access code to locate the specific area that we would be mapping.

Missing Maps focusses on places that don’t make the news. Underdeveloped countries and cities within them where there is ongoing humanitarian crisis.

We were mapping Lekasi, an area on the Congo where there is currently a cholera outbreak and it is extremely important for them to be able to receive healthcare.

As little as 12% of the city was mapped in the 2 hours that we were there for but in the bigger scale that is an incredible difference being made to the people that live there and the workers that will be sent over to help.
