The effect of Oxytocin - The Love Drug

The effect of Oxytocin - The Love Drug

More so than ever, Oxytocin or the "love drug", is being proven to have a wide variety of physical and psychological effects on both men and women.

Nick-named the "love hormone" or the "cuddle hormone" suggests to us that it has purely positive effects on the brain, encouragin us to forget that there may be negatives too.

The hormone moves from the brain to the pituitary gland where it is then released into the bloodsteam and into cells throughout the body, levels are found to be higher in stressful situations and social bonding situations.

As much as this hormone can increase emotions for the better we must be wary of the negative effects that it can have on us. It can intensify memories of bad bonding situations, poor relationships.

Another plus is that it has been considered to be used in the treatment of Autism but with the added warning that the social information being provided must be positive in order to have the desired effect.

So, all in all, with the correct mind frame and outlook this hormone will make you feel better but remember to keep in the back of your mind that there may be some adverse effects too.
